As of July 14, 2013, there have been 39 Armed Violent Intruder (A.V.I.) shootings in the United States. Mitigation Dynamics Inc. (MDI) tracks these statistics. The rate of incidents is slightly lower than the previous year at the same point. A total of 82 Armed Violent Intruder shootings occurred in 2012. The 39 shootings in 2013 include 41 people killed, 60 people wounded and they have occurred in businesses, academic settings, healthcare facilities and private residences. The shooter’s weapon of choice was a semi-automatic handgun.
